His paintings have been purchased for the prestigious Bank of England collection, and he was commissioned to paint the major paintings in the award winning Halifax Building Society's headquarters, which was opened by Her Majesty the Queen. For many years, he has worked for extended periods in S. France, Italy and Portugal, and the experience of studying in these countries, has had a distinct influence on his painting. His abstracted landscape paintings convey the atmosphere and unique character of these southern European landscapes, with their hilltop villages and patterned fields. There is a dynamic quality to his work, originating in careful observation and sensitive selection. On the onehand, the paintings reflect the artist's subjective response to the landscape, and on the other his preoccupation with the orchestration of colour, shape and texture. The resulting abstracted compositions are not only stimulating in their own right, but also present visual metaphors to stimulate our own memories. Also emanating from the influence of his studies abroad, his nude figure compositions, with their juxtaposition of image and textured surface, reveal a sensitive observation of the nude, and a creative reaction to the surfaces of time worn Italian frescoes.
